Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain will participate in three 90-minute debates. Their running mates, Democrat Joe Biden, and Republican Sarah Palin will have one debate. All four are sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates.
The first presidential debate will be held on Friday, September 26 and will focus on foreign policy with PBS' Jim Lehrer as moderator. The one and only vice presidential debate is scheduled for Thursday, October 2 and will address domestic and foreign policy with Gwen Ifill of PBS as moderator. The second presidential debate will be Tuesday, October 7 with NBC's Tom Brokaw as moderator. This debate will have a town hall format and will address issues raised by members of the audience and internet participants. The final presidential debate is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15 and will address domestic policy issues. This event will be moderated by Bob Scheiffer of CBS.
