President Barack Obama Radio Address - August 29, 2009
WEEKLY ADDRESS: President Obama Marks Fourth Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina; Will Visit New Orleans Later This Year
WASHINGTON – In this week’s address, President Barack Obama remembered the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, described what his administration has done to boost the Gulf Coast recovery effort, and said that he will visit New Orleans before the end of the year. As the Gulf Coast recovers, we must learn the lessons of Katrina, so that our nation will be more protected and resilient in the face of disaster – whether it’s from a hurricane, earthquake, wildfire, pandemic, or terrorist attack.

North Siskiyou Democrats Offer Sunday Matinee
YREKA – Democrats of North Siskiyou will present American Blackout, at the Yreka Community Center Lounge, 810 N. Oregon St. on Sunday, July 20 at 3:00 p.m.
American Blackout critically examines the contemporary tactics used to control our democratic process and silence voices of political dissent. Many have heard of the alleged voting irregularities that occurred during the presidential elections of 2000 and 2004. Until now, these incidents have gone under reported and are commonly written off as insignificant rumors or unintentional mishaps resulting from an overburdened election system.
This film chronicles the recurring patterns of voter disenfranchisement from Florida 2000 to Ohio 2004 while following the story of Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney. McKinney not only took an active role investigating these election debacles, but found herself in the middle of her own after publicly questioning the Bush Administration about the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Featured journalists are Greg Palast and Bob Fitrakis with Congressional members John Conyers, John Lewis, Stephanie Tubbs-Jones and Bernie Sanders.
Light refreshments and discussion will follow the movie. Donations will help fund a Democratic Party headquarters in Yreka for the November 2008 election. For more information call 468-5947.

Jeff Stiles and Larry Marks, Co-coordinators for the Obama Campaign in Siskiyou County attended the opening of the Congressional District 2 Obama/Democratic Party office in Chico today. The 4,000 square foot office at 6th and Main in downtown Chico was filled to overflowing with enthusiastic supporters of Obama, Congressional Candidate Jeff Morris and a number of local candidates. Jeff Morris was also at the event as were lots of supporters sporting Jeff Morris T-Shirts. The enthusiasm and confidence was overflowing. Many, if not most of the attendees felt strongly that Obama would win in CD2, sweeping Jeff Morris to a victory over the increasingly unpopular incumbent Herger. Sounds like a dream, but this is a Democratic year and anything can happen if enough of us are willing to work hard.

This Year's Gold Rush Day in Yreka was a complete success for Siskiyou Democrats! Special kudos go to all those who helped man the booth throughout the day: Jo, Brian, Larry, Diann, Cinda, Marshall, Jeff, Harry and JoAn. We got our name out into the community, collected more money thru donations for our HQ, and ended up registering five new Democrats! (every little bit helps)
